The article examines contemporary responses to John Donne's poem "Anniversaries," with particular focus given to the poet Joseph Hall's poems "Praise of the Dead and the Anatomie" and "The Harbinger to the Progress." The relationship of Hall and Donne is examined, and Hall's literary style and background are commented on.
