- Abstract
The inhibitory and bactericidal activities of rosaramicin were tested against 324 strains of bacteria. A lethal effect at low concentrations was demonstrated against group A and some anaerobic bacteria. Only inhibition was demonstrated in tests of staphylococci, group B streptococci and Streptococcus faecalis. Of 44 strains of Serratia marcescens, 20–45% were inhibited by concentrations of 16 mg/1 or less. Bacteristatic synergy between rosaramicin and colistimethate was demonstrated by a checkerboard method against 16 of 17 strains of Ser. marcescens tested, and bactericidal synergy was seen in 7 of 12 strains tested by a time-killing method.
