- Abstract
Louis Wolowski (1810-1876) fût un insurgé de 1830-1831, un émigré polonais à Paris, un économiste français, un représentant du peuple de 1848 et un député de 1871, un banquier et finalement un sénateur inamovible de la Troisième République. Il disposait aussi d'un large réseau de contacts internationaux. Wolowski voyageait beaucoup, notamment en Angleterre, Belgique, Hollande, dans les états allemands, en Suisse ou en Autriche. Ses voyages avaient dans la plupart des cas un caractère purement scientifique ; cela concerne aussi sa participation aux expositions universelles de Londres ou de Vienne. Mais, dans le cas de Wolowski, ces déplacements ne servaient pas tant à connaitre de nouvelles réalités qu'à renforcer ses idées libérales et confirmer ses conceptions libre-échangistes et de libre-marché préconçues.
