- Abstract
Introduction: TB in the population deprived of liberty (PPL) is a relevant issue in the provision of care and it is possible to clearly glimpse the factors for the realization of the right to health by characterizing the profile of prisoners, vulnerabilities and inequalities present in the prison population. Methodology: This is a bibliographic study with a qualitative approach of the type of literature review. The aim was to analyze the cases of tuberculosis in people deprived of their liberty in the Brazilian prison system. Results and discussion: From the results obtained, it can be seen that a large part of the literature deals with the spread of tuberculosis cases in people deprived of their liberty, due to the conditions and overcrowding of the prison systems in Brazil and also the lack of health policies in the care of inmates. Tuberculosis in prisons is often ignored and continues to be an important public health problem in many contexts, particularly in countries with a high incidence of this disease (2). Conclusion: The prevalence of cases of the disease in prison systems is alarming, which results in an increase in the number of patients due to subhuman conditions, overcrowding, lack of access to health care, medical care and health education about the disease.
