- Title
Before Louise: the history of infertility.
- Authors
De Cure, Natalie; LIM, Boon H.
- Abstract
The article discusses the author's view on the history of infertility and the evolution of artificial reproductive technology. In 1672, Reignier de Graaf described the ovarian follicles and in 1677 Anthoni van Leeuwenhoek described the first spermatozoa. In 1752, William Smellie wrote the concept of fertilisation and Lazzaro Spallanzani introduced the first artificial insemination in 1784. Test tube baby Louise Brown's case indicates that artificial reproductive technology has improved.
