- Title

- Authors
Freedman, Jonathan
- Abstract
The author discusses the question of whether or not Jewish people can be considered ethnic as opposed to white, precipitated by a question over whether or not a Jewish American Studies course fulfills an ethnic studies requirement. The author contrasts depictions of ethnic cultures such as Native Americans, Koreans, and Hispanics against Jewish experiences in the U.S. The author cites Native American author Sherman Alexie's poem “Inside Dachau” and discusses the conflation of Indians and Holocaust imagery. The author describes the etymology of the word 'ethnic' and its' links to the Greek version of the Hebrew Bible and the relationship between Jews and gentiles.
