- Abstract
In the following study different precipitation procedures for the determination of HDL-cholesterol have been investigated. Compared were a self made reagent (1). two test combinations which are in normal commercial usage. and the preparative ultracentrifuge as a method of reference. The different methods have been compared not only to a group of normolipemic but also to a group of hyperlipemic patient sera. The results of two methods have been compared to the ultracentrifugation. The patients have been divided into different risk groups according to different risk indices. The two test combinations for HDL-cholesterol as well as the precipitation reagent by Abraham et al (1) resulted in good correlations. The comparison of the precipitation methods to the ultracentrifuge resulted in good correlations The results of the methods showed very good conformity not only for normolipemic but also for hyperlipemic patient sera. For triglyceride values over 460 mg/dl the precipitation reaction is altered for all precipitation reagents. In these cases measures such as ultrafiltration. ultracentrifugation or dilution are indicated in order to get good results. Thus it could be shown that two HDL -- cholesterol precipitation procedures which are in normal commercial usage give comparable HDL-values. Therefore the results of the HDL-values concerning the risk of coronary heart disease are comparable. It could be demonstrated that different risk indices resulted considerable differences as far as an existing atherogen risk is concerned.
