- Abstract
A case study is presented on Mexico City, Mexico, with a focus on the ecological aspects of the areas of Lake Xochimilco, in the Valley of Mexico, and the rural lands of Chalco, both in the area of Mexico City. The study explores the two areas as examples of the issues of both ecological and environmental frontiers relating to rural lands that are located in large metropolitan areas. The political, economic and social aspects regarding the sustainable development of the two areas are discussed.
