- Abstract
This study addresses one aspect o f academic discourse in education: it explores one of the organizational speech genres in this field. A corpus of ten 'guidelines for authors' of education research journals from Latin America was analyzed. By means o f a qua lita tive em ergent strategy th e rhetorical move analysis of texts showed that the most usual text structure is one with four movements, namely: a first one pertaining the journal itself; a second one in reference to them anuscripts to be subm tted to the journal; a third one related to the technical aspects of manuscripts, and fourth one that addresses issues of journal policy. Most'guidelines for authors' include these four movements, while a minority include only three. A variety o genres are promoted in these journals, but the one wich seems to be preferred is the original research article that presents results, albeit often in an indirect manner.
