- Authors
Roth, Kurt; Westphalen, Detlef; Brodrick, James
- Abstract
The article focuses on the developments and application of phase-change material (PCM) technology to the building material industry. The energy saving potential of the technology is highlighted, commenting on the high thermal mass elements which lead to effective environmental controls and cooling processes. The varying influences of PCMs on buildings in different climates are discussed. The market factors involved in the developing of PCM building materials are also discussed. The positive elements of the product are contrasted with the high cost of production and lack of flammability resistance.
