- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents information on socialization of the Gypsy child. The aim of this article is to explore the special world of the Gypsy child and, more particularly, to examine certain specific features of it which may help people understand the process by which its personality is formed. The article proposes to show how this child, integrated into the life of the group at an early age, reproduces its defence mechanisms and is affected by the necessities of the nomadic way of life. The history of this nomadism is a history of exclusion and rejection. The purpose here is to make clear the process which Gypsy society is currently a victim of, and which is affecting throughout the world all traditional societies that have adhered to a culture different from that of the industrial model. The use in this article of the terms "Gypsy society" and "the Gypsy" may lead to confusion. It should be emphasized that the social reality designated is, in fact, extremely varied and that there is no question of a homogeneous society.
