- Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of the concept of rhythmanalysis in geography education. Method: In the study, the document analysis method was used. The general structure and achievements of the Ministry of National Education's 2018 Geography Lesson Curriculum were analyzed within the scope of rhythmanalysis. The acquisitions selected from the two units (natural systems and human systems) in the Geography Lesson Curriculum (2018) with the random sampling method were evaluated within the framework of rhythmanalysis. In this way, it has been shown that rhythmanalysis can be a valid application for both natural systems and human systems. Findings: It has been seen that the examined acquisition are compatible with the basic concepts that constitutes the rhythmanalysis. In addition, it has been determined that the acquisition have more than one rhythm type at the same time. As a result of the aforementioned analyzes, it was revealed that the rhythm analysis approach could be used in geography education in a way that would provide a holistic and relational perspective. Implications: It has been determined that the geography lesson is a basic course in which rhythmanalysis approach can be carried out since the content of the acquisitions in the curriculum includes many components related to nature and people. In the context of rhythmanalysis, it has been seen that geography is one of the basic disciplines in understanding the rhythm and relationality between natural and human factors that play a role in the change and transformation of temporalized spaces. The relationship between natural and human factors in the geography course subject contents showed one-to-one harmony with the skills desired to be acquired by the student through rhythm analysis on the basis of polyrhythm, rhythm, arrhythmia, repetitions and differences, cyclic and linear repetitions, measure and frequency. Originality: There is no study in the literature on geography education based on rhythmanalysis. In this respect, it is thought that the study will form the basis for possible studies in the literature.
