- Abstract
Present study investigated recreational swimmers' attitudes toward the concepts of environmental friendly policy in Greece and the sports centers compliance to provide environmental friendly services. Additionally, t-test were applied to find differences between gender and educational level subgroups. 160 swimmers (54.4% men and 45.6% women) from three swimming pools in Thessaloniki completed two research scales to assess the "environmentally friendly policy in Greece" and "the compliance of sports centers with environmentally friendly services" (Kouthouris & Kontogianni, 2013) and their demographics. The results of the t-test for the first scale "implementation of environmentally friendly policy in Greece" did not reveal any statistically significant differences between male and female swimmers, while revealed statistically significant differences in all six items of the scale between swimmers with different educational level. More detailed swimmers with higher education succeeded higher scores, than swimmers with lower education level. T-test results for the second scale "compliance of sports centers to provide environmentally friendly services" revealed differences only in one item, simultaneously between men and women and among swimmers with different educational levels. In conclusion, sports centers management in order to segment properly the users of the swimming pools and provide more green specific services ought to take in advance swimmers' environmental attitudes and their demographic characteristics.
