- Abstract
The article presents the statement issued by the U.S. National Science Board regarding the appointment of physicist Franklin A. Long as the director of the National Science Foundation. The appointment of a successor to Leland Haworth, who will retire in June 1969, has created a controversy since the appointment of Long was vetoed for political considerations. To address, the National Science Board has issued a statement on April 21, 1969 on the matter which was unanimously approved by 22 members of the Board.
