- Abstract
The article presents a study which evaluates the sources of nutrients of the irrigated pond field windward system in Kohala, Hawaii. It analyzes soil chemical and stream water materials to assess the presence of minerals such as resin extractable phosphorus (P) and calcium (Ca) and correlates it with the availability of the plants existing in the windward system. It shows that leeward Hawi soil is infertile as manifested by the high volume of remaining P relative to parent material.
