- Abstract
The article focuses on an investigation by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources concerning an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis. It mentions that the initial outbreak was focused on attendees of a family reunion on October 17, 2006, and was spread due to a combination of person-to-person and food-borne transmission and consisted of two strains of norovirus. It states that four nonattendees were also infected from household contact of infected attendees. It mentions that symptoms of the sick attendees included diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, nausea, and other symptoms, and that the median duration of the illness was 54 hours. It talks about the prevention and control of norovirus outbreaks, including hand washing and discarding possibly contaminated food.
