- Abstract
Presents news from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Update on cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in U.S. military personnel in southwest and central Asia. The fly-born parasitic infection found in 522 confirmed cases; Lishmania major as the etiologic agent for 176 of the cases; The update which looks at the other 361 cases of unspecified parasites; Appearance that most of the soldiers where infected in Iraq, notably in areas near the Iraq-Syria border; Implementation of new measures to decrease the risk for CL among military personnel and to expedite detection and treatment.
