- Abstract
The article presents an updated practice guideline from the American College of Physicians (ACP) on treatment of low bone mineral density (BMD) and osteoporosis to prevent fractures. Treatment recommendations include alendronate, risedronate, zoledronic acid and denosumab to decrease hip or vertebral fracture risk in women with osteoporosis and biphosphonates for men with osteoporosis. Pharmacologic treatment options for low BMD and osteoporosis and associated adverse effects are presented.
