- Abstract
The article discusses the themes of friendship, love, brotherhood and homosexuality in the work of English novelist E. M. Forster. Forster's interest in these topics are said to be evident in his earliest writing, such as "The Tomb of Pletone," and "The Longest Journey." The observations of literary critic Robert K. Martin on Forster are cited, and Forster's vision of homosexuality as a positive force for obliterating social barriers of race and class is discussed. The poet W. H. Auden's artistic reaction to Forster's influence is also discussed.
