- Title
Bioethanol needs biotech now.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the development of ethanol as a biofuel energy source in the U.S. Though the ethanol seems to have many advantages over other energy sources, the rationale for turning more vegetation into ethanol is less than perfect. However, if biotechnology would only effect innovations on ethanol from corn grains to make it more sustainable, energy-efficient, but recalcitrant feedstocks, it would improve ethanol as a source and doing so would uplift biotechnology's public image.
