Title
Dawn of the gene expression array.
Abstract
The article presents the activities that lead to development of the first gene expression array by scientists from Affymetrix Inc., David Lockhart and Mark Chee in the U.S. For over one year of experiments, the two designed a thousands of nucleotides as gene detectors which they synthesized into high-density array through the use of parallel combinatorial chemistry. The array was used for quantification of messenger RNA molecules in cells and RNA detection.
