- Title
Sclerostin and the Unloading of Bone.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents a commentary on the study "Sclerotin Mediates Bone Response to Mechanical Unloading Through Antagonizing Wnt/Β-Catenin Signaling." The skeleton, in a process called functional adaptation, senses and reacts to various inputs generated, or lost, due to mechanical unloading of the bone from non-habitual activities. Described are experiments showing that the loss of bone induced by hind-limb unloading in mice is related to the increased expression of the SOST gene and decreased expression of Wnt target genes.
