- Abstract
In the present study haematological, biochemical and therapeutic evaluation of positive cases of canine ehrlichiosis. A total of 21 dogs affected with canine ehrlichiosis were diagnosed based on nPCR. Nested PCR assay produced amplicons of expected size (389 bp) specific for E. canis in 20.19% (21/104) of samples. Haematological parameters of canine ehrlichiosis positive dogs revealed significantly (p<0.01) lower in Hb, TEC, PCV, MCV, MCH and thrombocytes, significantly (p<0.05) higher in neutrophils and significantly ((p<0.05) lower in lymphocytes as compared to control group. Biochemical parameters of canine ehrlichiosis positive dogs revealed significantly (p<0.01) lower in albumin and A/G ratio, significantly (p<0.05) lower in total protein and significantly (p>0.05) higher in SGPT as compared to control group. Positive cases of canine ehrlichiosis were treated with doxycycline @ 5 mg/kg body weight orally twice daily for 28 days. All dogs presented back after 2 weeks for follow up treatment and assessment. Haematological improvement indicated that the dogs responded to the therapy and recovered from the effects of canine ehrlichiosis.
