The urinary system: key to maintaining homeostasis.

- Abstract
This article provides the reader with an overview of the urinary system, sometimes called the renal system. There are number of component parts that make up this system. This body system works in unison with other body systems ensuring homeostasis (the ability to maintain a relatively stable internal state); it has a key role to play in maintaining homeostasis. One aspect of the kidneys is to filter the blood; as they do this, they remove waste products and produce urine. The urine formed by the kidneys is stored in the urinary bladder and is expelled during the act of micturition. Developing an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the renal system and its component parts can help those who provide care to do so safely and effectively. The article offers a glossary of terms and a short quiz is provided.
