- Abstract
The article focuses on Supreme Court Justice Pierce Butler in the U.S. It notes that Butler is considered by historians as one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, those who blocked the New Deal reform of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Several factors which account the insufficiency of Butler to scholarly literature includes the contribution of Pierce usually to technical sector of the law such as public utilities and tax law. Another factor notes that he integrates mechanical approach in opinion writing, showing simplicity and minimalism. Moreover, the colleagues of Butler involves highly popular jurists including William Howard Taft, Benjamin Cardozo and Oliver Wendell Holmes.
