- Abstract
This article focuses on patient's education and morbidity in atopic eczema. It has a chronic course, with frequent relapses. Pruritus is a prominent symptom of AE and continuous scratching by patients may aggravate or maintain skin inflammation. The disease puts a special burden on the children and affects the whole family. To improve long-term outcome in managing AE, it is not only important to treat the symptoms but also to support the coping efforts of patients and their families. Effective treatment of AE is dependent upon good management by the patients and parents.
