The article discusses the roots, formation and the development of the American Lyceum Movement of Josiah Holbrook. It mentions that the movement played an important role in the adult education for the nineteenth-century U.S. aimed to address the expanding needs of adult learners through community-based and non-formal educational structures. It discusses the educational and social implications of the Lyceum during the 1848-1849 season.
