- Abstract
Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare disorder that affects the mesentery, the tissue that connects the intestines to the abdominal wall. It is characterized by fibro-inflammatory changes and can present as an abdominal mass or cause abdominal symptoms. The exact cause of the condition is unknown, but it is not believed to be neoplastic. Treatment options are limited and primarily focused on managing symptoms. Glucocorticoids, alone or in combination with tamoxifen or colchicine, may help improve symptoms in most cases. The association between sclerosing mesenteritis and other conditions, such as previous abdominal surgery or trauma, immune-mediated conditions, or underlying malignancy, is still unclear. Further research is needed to better understand the etiology and treatment of this rare disorder.
