- Abstract
The article presents the author's insights on his work at the U.S. Intelligence Agency's (USIA) Special Projects Office (SPO). The author mentions that the Vienna, Austria-based SPO was created during the Cold War. He states that SPO's main objective was to provide support for public diplomacy work of the U.S. embassies in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. The author adds that one of his tasks was to leak newsworthy information that could be unfavorable for East European governments.
