Chinese older adults: what active-aging professionals need to know.
- Abstract
An interview with Yu-Ping Chang, assistant professor of nursing at the University of Buffalo in New York is presented. He advises clinicians in retirement communities to engage more in communication process to improve their assisted living and dementia care setting for Chinese older adults. Chang suggests caregivers to increase their cultural and self-awareness to reduce cultural distance. He also notes the similarity of the dementia-related symptoms among Chinese and American older adults.
