- Abstract
This article discusses poet Charles Olsen and his use of archaeological processes to understand his poetic role. These processes include the retrieval of an original language, a return to a familiarization with nature, and the recuperation of archaic vision. The author explores Olsen's philosophical stance on relationships to objects and their human contexts. Olsen's research on Mayan and Sumerian culture is examined. The article also discusses the influence of Chinese ideograms on Olsen.
