- Abstract
The article focuses on the phonetic processes of the third Slavic palatalization of the velars through specification of the terminus post quem in the etymology of the hydronym 'Hλιβαϰί&;#x03B1; (= Ialomiţa). It says that the creation in time of the phonetic processes in Common Slavic has been made in large part base on the relative chronology. It adds that the study of the toponymy of Slavic was originated from Greece made between the sixth and eight centuries. Moreover, the first etymology as given by B. P. Hasdue, beggining from the form Ialomi&;#x0163;a, which is 'the clayey river' and the difficulty of explaining its evolution into Ialomi&;#x0163;a.
