The article examines that study of the Scandinavian component in the English lexis makes use of literary and place-name source material. Topics discussed include importance of Suffolkian language for the associated questions of dialect geography along with the limits of Danelaw; suffolk of a topographical term, Snavergate; and etymology of Old Danish language.
