- Abstract
A critique of the Old English poem "The Seasons for Fasting" is presented, focusing on the interpretation of the twelfe runa, or twelve mysteries. Christian holidays such as Lent and the Ember fasts are discussed in the poem, and the author describes Christian Roman religious traditions. Interpretations of the phrase by critics such as Elliot Van Kirk Dobbie, Antoine Chavasse and Ludwig Eisenhofer are discussed.
