- Authors
Insana, Lina
- Abstract
This article focuses on the literary criticism of Tomie dePaola's "Strega Nona" and its series in Italian American identity. This book explores the hierarchies of Italian American literature and ethnic hybridity, the iconic figure of grandmothers, and the emerging role of stregheria to Italian identity's uniqueness. It shows the transmissive role of a grandparent as well as the very artistic work of children's literature. Its alchemic combination of various Italians and the illustrated literature mode is considered to be an ethnically crossed text.
