- Abstract
The aim of this paper is twofold. First, I reconstruct the literary portrait of the Basque novelist Pío Baroja (1872-1956) that Camilo José Cela (1916-2002) shaped over several decades through the many texts (press articles, essays, prefaces, etc.) that the Galician writer devoted to describing Baroja's personality and analysing his writing. Secondly, I intend to show that, of all the Spanish writers who have believed themselves to be his disciples, Cela has perhaps made more efforts to defend Baroja's legacy and claim for him a place of honour in the history of Spanish Literature.
