- Abstract
The article "Enlightenment without Certainty of Salvation" pays tribute to the critical political scientist Kurt Lenk after his death in 2022. Lenk's contribution to political theory is described, and his rejection of ideological beliefs is emphasized. Lenk advocated for an enlightenment that does not rely on religious certainties. His works had a significant influence on the sociology of knowledge and the legitimation through procedures. The article also discusses German conservatism and its development from 1968 to 2018, including the emergence of the new right in the 1990s and the question of the democratic nature of parliamentarism. The uncertainties and controversies within German conservatism are emphasized.
