- Abstract
This article focuses on a research which shows that the FG-repeat asymmetry of the nuclear pore complex is dispensable for bulk nucleocytoplasmic transport in vivo. The nuclear pore complex (NPC) spans the two lipid bilayers of the nuclear envelope and is the essential mediator of all known transport events between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. FG Nups appear to play a central role in mediating the translocation of transport receptor-cargo complexes through the NPC by providing important interaction surfaces for transport factors.
