- Abstract
Antibacterial, antifungal and cytotoxic studies of two dimensional (2-D) cobalt coordination polymer[Co(3-PPA)2(H2O)2] (1) where PPA = pyridine propionic acid, has been evaluated. In 1, each cobalt metal ion bears slightly distorted octahedral geometry. The antimicrobial efficiency of the co-ordination polymer was tested on bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis), Pasturella multocida (P. multocida), Escherichia coli (E. coli) and pathogenic fungilike Alternaria alternate (A. alternate), Aspergillus niger (A. niger), Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus) and Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum). The antimicrobial studies indicate that 1 has moderate inhibition against bacterial and fungal strains and also exhibits negligible cytotoxicity (4%) against bovine erythrocytes.
