- Abstract
The article examines conventional representations of literary historiography in school education from a postcolonial perspective. Two approaches are presented to break the predominantly Eurocentric view of literary history: the expansion of traditional epoch characteristics and established text interpretations of canonical texts. Postcolonial German studies have been involved in the selection of authors worthy of canonization, the (re)membrance of marginalized texts, and the visibility of the influence of literary theoretical approaches on collective memory for around 20 years. The text discusses the significance of colonialism in literary history and the necessity to consider literary production and reception in relation to colonial fantasies. It emphasizes that the structures of inequality and hierarchy can be found within the texts themselves, such as in the narrative perspective, character portrayal, and linguistic design. It argues that literary historiography is Eurocentric and needs to be expanded to consider colonial discourses and their influence on textual worlds. An example of a postcolonial re-reading is given using the novel "Tschick" by Wolfgang Herrndorf. In intercultural literary research, the portrayal of the character Tschick is evaluated differently. Some see it as a literary exaggeration that dissolves stereotypes, while others identify powerful narrative logics. Tschick's multiethnic affiliation is interpreted as a real historical process of Russification. From a postcolonial perspective, Tschick proves to be a novel that exposes the discrimination of Russified individuals, but the ethnically marked character itself does not undergo a process of development. The novel uses the character to develop and make the protagonist Maik interesting. The interpretations of the text depend on the applied methods, and in postcolonial literary history education, it is important to consider the multiplicity of voices in a text. The list includes a compilation of books and articles dealing with various topics in literary and cultural theory. Works on postcolonial aesthetics, German literature of the 19th century, and literature didactics are listed. Some of the mentioned works discuss specific novels such as "Effi Briest" by Theodor Fontane and "Tschick" by Wolfgang Herrndorf. Authors such as Georg Gottfried Gervinus and Kaiser Wilhelm II are also mentioned. The list also includes books on canon formation and diversity-sensitive literature didactics.
