- Abstract
This article focuses on the effects of short term group counseling. According to findings of a study of group of over one thousand teachers, it was concluded that many of these teachers were low-affect and over-controlled people who wanted to learn to live more richly. It was also concluded that most school counselors began their professional life as teachers. Group counseling method is an effective method because it provides an opportunity to discover that others like themselves have problems, that they can be helped by counseling, and that by solving these problems they can live more richly. Group counseling is beneficial because it provides an opportunity to extend knowledge of human behavior and to apply this knowledge in understanding peers. It also helps in applying knowledge of counseling techniques by assuming the co-therapist role in attempting to help others. A study of 68 out of 84 volunteers for group counseling tends to support the findings of Arthur T. Jersild, a faculty at Teachers College of Columbia University, that teachers were eager to participate in group counseling.
