The article discusses the role religion, music and mothers played in the education of children and talks about the correspondence of the Jerningham family which shows the importance of music education in the lives of mothers inclined towards music. Topics include Lady Frances Jerningham's letters which shows maternal concern in her children's musical education, and the benefits of educating childen abroad for the British aristocracy.
