- Abstract
The article studies young graffiti artists in Mexico City, Mexico. In particular, through an analysis of symbolic, discursive, and value-related elements, it looks at how the graffiti created by this youth is influenced by economic globalization. For the purposes of the study, Mexico City is defined as a space subject to economic crises while experiencing global financial liberalization and in which youth engage in activities that build combined global and local identities. The article maintains that practicing graffiti enables young Mexicans to identify with both the local and global communities of graffiti artists.
