- Abstract
Though the topic of Bessarabia and its status doesn't retain attention of the Department of State policy - makers, in interwar period, at the beginning of WWII the situation has changed. In large reports, the situation of Romania, as a whole, and of its Eastern frontier, with all implications, are more present. U. S. diplomats, from Bucharest and Moscow, proved to be more concerned and more lucid about Soviet intentions, as they "translate" from various actions of Soviet Government. Moreover, at Washington, the belief that Romania would not go to war with USSR, for Bessarabia, became stronger.
