- Abstract
This article features the work and career of U.S. painter Thomas Hart Benton. President Harry S. Truman identified Benton as the best painter in the country. Benton created a mural for the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri. The artist explored the local art scene in New York City and styles as impressionism and synchromism. He combined modern and academic elements of painting in making his art work. Benton also had a habit of meeting people in the countryside and sketching them and their surroundings.
