- Abstract
The leaf extracts of Wrightia tinctoria were tested for their in vitro antibacterial activity by well diffusion method. Hexane, chloroform, methanol extracts of the leaves of Wrightia tinctoria were evaluated for antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. using Streptomycin citrate as reference standard. In the present study it was observed that all the extracts have shown a certain degree of antibacterial activity. The methanolic extract of Wrightia tinctoria leaves exhibited significant activity. [Diameter of inhibition zone (mm) = 27±0.09 (S. aureus), 23±0.88 (E.coli)]
