- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of « cynicism » at work. This term is indeed extensively used to describe an organizational reality suffering from a lack of integrity. Its meaning, however, remains fuzzy. This article is articulated around two separate parts. The first one is a qualitative part to explore the concept of cynicism and to help build the research model. In the second part the model will be tested quantitatively. The study clarifies the definition of cynicism, the identification of its dimensions, and its consequences at work as well. It shows the social exchange mechanism by which the managers adapt their level of contribution at work, according to the perception they have of their top managers' behaviours.
