- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of multi-use (MU) planning in ocean settings, which involves purposefully combining different activities in close proximity to provide benefits to each other. Examples include aquaculture farmers harvesting seaweeds and shellfish within offshore wind farms, charter boat captains using turbine sensors for navigation, and commercial fishermen using innovative gear within wind farms. The article highlights the potential for MU to enhance community visibility, inform monitoring efforts, and address food and energy needs. However, it also acknowledges the challenges and the need for regulatory support, collaboration, and research. Progress is being made through legislation and collaborative research agreements. The article emphasizes the importance of knowledge building and learning from European experiences to improve the use, management, and protection of ocean spaces.
