- Abstract
The article focuses on a report on hospitalized patients with influenza A (H1N1) virus infection in California from April to May 2009. About 96% of unsubtypable specimens have been confirmed as novel influenza A. The largest number of patients resided in San Diego and Imperial counties. Pneumonia and dehydration were the most common admission diagnoses. Sixty four percent of the patients had underlying medical conditions, the most common of which were chronic lung disease and chronic cardiac disease. A 32-year-old man was presented with a 3-day history of fever, chills and productive cough. A rapid antigen test and bronchoalveolar lavage culture were positive for influenza A, with confirmation of novel influenza A.
