- Abstract
The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) is engaging the community through exciting exhibitions, both online and at the museum. One of their latest exhibitions, "170 Years of Harbor History," showcases archival photographs of Santa Barbara's harbor and waterfront from 1853 to the present, highlighting important moments in the city's history. The exhibition also includes snapshots of daily life and emphasizes that Santa Barbara's harbor remains one of the few commercial fishing harbors still in operation in California. The exhibition will be on view from September 15, 2023, to January 21, 2024. Additionally, SBMM offers traveling exhibitions on various topics, including Santa Barbara harbor history, ocean life, and mermaids. The museum is also expanding its online artifact collections, with the upcoming addition of a Diving Helmet Online Collection featuring more than two dozen helmets and masks used for commercial diving operations.
